Peyton, Colorado

While driving on Highway 124 to Colorado Springs, my son Cooper and I stopped in Peyton,
Colorado (Population 250). The town consists of a general store, a post office, a used car lot and a bar. We stopped in the bar, The Pop A Top Saloon, for a beer where we found a great jukebox, a friendly barmaid and a couple of horseshoe pits out back.

The town was founded in 1888 by George Peyton. It was once a stop on the famous Rock Island Railroad but the depot was torn down in the mid-fifties. The dancer and actor Lisa Joann Thompson lived here for a few years as a child. She has appeared in many TV shows and movies including The Bold And The Beautiful, Days Of Our Lives, In Living Color, The X-Files and Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery. I didn’t see her drinking in the Pop A Top, though.
